Since April 1, 2025, there has once again been a central contact point in Görlitz’s Inner City West for questions, ideas, and initiatives from the district: Sebastian Höbler has taken on the new position of Neighbourhood Manager at the City Administration of Görlitz.
With 17 years of professional experience in youth work, project coordination, and network development, the trained social pedagogue brings a wealth of knowledge and dedication to support the needs of a vibrant neighbourhood.
His office is located in the youth centre CaTeeDrale. There, he will not only be available to listen to the concerns of residents but will also use the café as a meeting place for conversations, consultations, informational evenings, and smaller events.
In the first few weeks, the focus has been on getting a clear picture of the district and holding initial meetings with project partners, associations, initiatives, institutions, and local businesses. Sebastian Höbler aims to introduce himself personally, understand the various perspectives on the neighbourhood, and explore potential forms of collaboration.
Starting June 13, 2025, the café at CaTeeDrale will have regular opening hours to provide easy opportunities for conversations with residents. The neighbourhood café will then be open every Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and every Friday from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. – for all residents who wish to chat, seek advice, plan something, or simply drop by for a cup of coffee or tea.
The Neighbourhood Management role is part of the Area-Based Integrated Development Plan (GIHK), developed by the City of Görlitz in collaboration with committed organisations and local residents. The aim is to sustainably improve life in the neighbourhood in the coming years – through stronger networks, more civic engagement, and new offerings with local impact. Like other projects in the district, the new position is funded by the European Social Fund Plus (ESF Plus) and the Free State of Saxony.
“I’m looking forward to many conversations and encounters with the people here in the neighbourhood,” says Sebastian Höbler. “The ideas and experiences of engaged individuals as well as the residents are key to the positive development of the district.”
The neighbourhood management supports, among other things:
- coordination of existing projects in the neighbourhood
- development of new neighbourhood initiatives
- exchange between residents, organisations, and the city administration
- events, festivals, and community formats
- social integration and participation
Do you have ideas on how to make life in the neighbourhood more vibrant and enjoyable? Then stop by – Mr Höbler looks forward to connecting with you.
